James George Obituary
Jim George passed away on 18 July in Kapolei, Hawaii. He was 80 years old. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, July 29th at Makakilo Bible Church with live stream available on the Church’s YouTube channel. Burial with military honors will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at 3 pm on Tuesday, August 1. Arrangements are by Mililani Mortuary.
James Monroe “Jim” George was born at Columbus, Kansas to Preston and Lois (Osgood) George on May 14, 1944. He married Elizabeth Ann White on June 1, 1965, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1966, with a Bachelor of Pharmacy. He enlisted in the Army as a reserve medical corpsman, and was commissioned as an officer in the Army Reserves upon completion of Officer Training. He began working as a pharmaceutical sales representative for the Eli Lilly Company, which led Jim and Elizabeth to Southern California and membership at Grace Community Church. Growing rapidly in the faith, Jim was called to the ministry, and he enrolled in the Talbot School of Theology, where he received a Master of Divinity and later received his Master of Theology. He joined the staff of Grace Community church as a staff pastor in 1975, beginning a lifetime of pastoral ministry. He was called to missions, and moved with his family to pastor a church in Singapore for one full year in 1977, rejoining the staff of Grace Community Church upon their return. He led multiple ministry efforts at Grace, but was passionate about evangelism and discipleship, leading numerous Bible studies, and arranging and missions trips around. Individually he disciple countless young men, and together he and Liz counseled and mentored many couples over the years. He was a founding member of the faculty of The Masters’ Seminary, serving as the dean of admissions until he retired from Grace Community Church.
Through the 1980s and 1990s, Jim volunteered as a pharmacist for the Veterans Association hospital, and kept his pharmacy license current. He was called to active duty in Germany during Operation Joint Endeavor, and eventually retired as an Army Major at the end of 1999. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, The Army Achievement Medal (2 awards), The Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (3 awards), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Medical M Device, and was a qualified sharpshooter.
In 2000, Jim and Liz left California, and moved to Belfair, Washington where he began his career as an author and speaker, publishing his first book A Man After God’s Own Heart in 2002. He and Elizabeth traveled the world speaking and sharing the gospel, and together published over 200 books, Bible studies, and Bible reference materials that have been translated in over 15 languages. Writing under his own name, He was a two time Gold Medallion Book Award finalist, and eventually published over 25 books of practical Biblical wisdom. He joined the staff of Makakilo Bible Church in Kapolei, Hawaii in 2010, and served as a staff pastor and Elder until his passing. Jim is preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Katherine Zaengle, and is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth, daughter Courtney, sons-in-law Paul Zaengle and Paul Seitz, and grandchildren Jacob Seitz, Taylor Zaengle, Katherine Seitz, Matthew Zaengle, Isaac Seitz, Grace Seitz, Ryan Zaengle, and Lilyanna Seitz
