James Derek Kealii Manuwa's Obituary
James D. K. Manuwa, 59, of Honolulu, HI passed away from Multiple System Atrophy, a rare brain disease, which he bravely fought for over 12 years. Born in Palolo, and raised in Ewa Beach, James was a graduate of Campbell High School class of ?76 where he was much beloved by students and teachers alike. He strove to be the best in all he did and was a champion in a wide variety of sports, including football, basketball, track and field, boxing, surfing, fishing, and he held the title of National Arm Wrestling Champion 1998-1999. James attended Santa Ana College, and he served a short time in the US Marine Corp. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment in life, was in serving the Honolulu community as a substance abuse counselor for over 30 years at the Sand Island Treatment Center, where he helped hundreds find happiness in a life of sobriety. James is survived by his wife Carole, son James ?Keali?i?, daughter Kawehi (Marc) Au, step-daughter Heather LeMay, brother Gordon, sisters- Patty Girl (Vera Vierra), Cindy (Richard) Callejo, Tammy (Joe) Waligura, Ernestine, and 5 grandchildren. The Manuwa Ohana invite you to share in his memory on Sept. 30 at 5:30 pm at the Mililani Mortuary ? Mauka Chapel. Burial at sea at a later date.
