Jitsuo Fujimura's Obituary
Jistuo “Jits” Fujimura December 20, 1934 - July 10, 2025 (age 90)
Jitsuo “Jits” Fujimura, husband and “Super Papa”, peacefully passed away after a full and happy life on July 10, 2025.
He lived an amazing and blessed life surrounded by his treasures: Jan Fujimura, wife of sixty-three years, along with their children: Robin (Paz), Kelly (Joe) Monaco, and Wendie (Bryan) Ikeda; grandchildren: Ashley (Mike), Hailey (Zach), Carter, Jacob, Grace, Makena, and Megan; and great-grandchildren: Caleb and Emi.
The son of Ikuji and Sato Fujimura, Jits was the seventh child with siblings who predeceased him: Janet Mikami, Hiromi Fujimura, Lillian Tomishima, Clara Yoneda, Jean Kam, Blossom Tokishi, Joyce Kido, and a brother who died at birth. He is survived by his sister Doreen (Richard) Barreras.
Jits was born in Wailuku Town, Kahului Village, on December 20, 1934. Raised in the plantation town of Spreckelsville, his rascal nature saw him spending his formative years running around outside, making mischief with his many friends, and avoiding the reprimands of his parents and seven sisters. He earned his high school diploma from Maui High School in 1954 and joined the US Army shortly thereafter.
He and Jan were married in Los Angeles, but their family life was established in Momilani, a suburb of Pearl City, where he resided until his last day. Jits worked at The Jolly Roger Restaurant and The Aloha Candle Company as a bookkeeper, and he retired as a letter carrier for the US Postal Service at the Kapalama Station.
For the past quarter of a century, Jits’ faith in Jesus Christ was nurtured by the leadership and fellowship of the Pearlside Church in Pearl City and from Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Mililani Mauka. He was called to serve in many ways, big and small, but almost always unnoticed and of his own volition. He single-handedly prepared hundreds of meals over the years to fledgling pastors, fellow congregation members, and international students. His desire to share his faith led him on mission trips to Mongolia, China, and Japan.
Jits’ willingness to serve the community was strong, and he found himself involved in the Lions Club, Pearl City Community Association, the Pearl City Foundation, Pearl City Highlands Elementary School, and the Ronald McDonald House. He served in numerous leadership roles and was a strong supporter of the community’s Family Fun Days, Back-to-School Drives, Fall Festivals, and programs that included performing and teaching ukulele to youth and senior citizens.
In his final year, he celebrated his 90th birthday in December with close family and friends. A trip in June with the grandkids and kids to show his old haunts, eat manjyu, and visit his parents’ graves was a highlight for all. Jits found much joy in spending time with Jan, watching Netflix, tending to his yard, pickling fruits, baking and cooking yummy dishes, going to Don Quixote and Wholesale Unlimited, and watching his family make their way in the world.
