John "Jack" Small Obituary
John "Jack" Small, Born April 18, 1934 Died January 7, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of John Thomas Small (Mililani, Hawaii), who passed away on January 7, 2025 at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and many friends.
He was predeceased by his adopted father George and his mother Florence Small. He lost his biological father (Elmer) Crawford at the age of two when Crawford crashed his airplane. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Ellen; his brother George; his son Bob (Liane); grandchildren Randy (Lauri) and Kyle; and nieces and nephews.
John, better known as Jack, was born and raised in Ottawa, Illinois. He worked at his father’s Phillips 66 Service Station and the glass factory. He married his childhood sweetheart Ellen in 1954. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956. After completing his military service, he was hired by United Airlines and moved to the Chicago suburbs to be near his O’hare airport office where he would spend the remainder of his working days. He loved horse racing, the Chicago Bears, White Sox, Blackhawks and the Bulls. He enjoyed swimming, golfing, bowling and playing basketball. In 2017 John and Ellen moved to Mililani, Hawaii to escape the cold winters and join their son Bob, his wife Liane and grandchildren. Always a gentleman, he loved his wife, family and friends. He immensely enjoyed discussing sports, playing poker and eating pie, ice cream, pizza and a good burger or steak. John eagerly read the newspaper every day. He will be fondly remembered and missed.
