Joseph Richard DeMello, 90, of Makakilo, passed away on September 30th, 2023.
He was born on June 17, 1933 in Kohala to Joseph DeMello and Evaeon Carvalho. He was a dedicated, loving husband, father, brother, devoted grandpa, proud great grandpa, uncle and friend to many.
Joe and his high school sweetheart Harumi moved to Honolulu in 1950. He served in the National Guard for 15 years and later retired, after 35 years, from the Pearl Harbor Naval Supply Center.
He had a passion for many things. He enjoyed playing baseball, softball, basketball, running marathons, biking, swimming and fishing. He was a dedicated Little League manager, coach and a youth umpire for many years. He continued to play softball well into his senior years.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Harumi, son Kerwin, daughter Karen (Ronald), 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He lived a long, full life and was loved by many. We will remember him for his kind, thoughtful, generous and loving spirit. He appreciated and loved everyone who he encountered at all stages in his life. We will miss him very much but we are so grateful for the time that we had to spend with him.
