Juanita Yap's Obituary
Juanita Yap, 94, of Maui, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, in Kahului. She was born on April 24, 1931, in Wailuku.
Juanita is survived by her sons, Harold Jr. (Cindy), Michael Sr. (UG), Wayne (Esther); brothers, Pedro Del Castillo, Fernando Del Castillo; sisters, Maria Pacheco, Victoria Correa, Dolores Bio, Carmen Perreira; grandchildren, Luana, Michael Jr., Jenna, and Cheyenne. Juanita was blessed with numerous greatgrandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Juanita was predeceased by her husband of 78 years, Harold Yap, Sr.; son Gordon and grandson Joey; parents, Amador Del Castillo and Emily Santos Omayas; brothers, Amador Del Castillo, Leonard Del Castillo, Perfecto Del Castillo and Cecelio Omayas; and sister, Rosaline Gagarin.
At the core of Juanita’s heart was her family, and she lived by the values of love and hard work. Prior to her retirement, Juanita worked at the Good Samaritan Society – Pohai Nani in Kaneohe, serving her community as a housekeeper. On Maui, she was also a member of the Maui Puerto Rican Association. Juanita loved ceramic making, crocheting, crafting, cooking, baking, and Puerto Rican music.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Hospice Maui, Dr. Daniel Garcia, and Jay and Karen Daguio for the genuine care, compassion, and support given to Juanita over the years.
Services will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Mililani Memorial Park, Makai Chapel, 94-560 Kamehameha Highway, Honolulu, visitation from 10:00am; prayer service will begin at 10:30am; and burial will follow at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe at 2:00pm.
