Juliana Aganon Asiatico's Obituary
Juliana Asiatico Obituary
Juliana “Jeanne” Aganon Asiatico, 95 years old, of Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii, left this Earth on September 23, 2023 into the heavenly loving arms of the Lord.
One of nine children born to Filipino immigrant parents, Luis Aganon and Quirina Villanueva Aganon, she entered the world on February 7, 1928 in the plantation village of Paia in the town of Makawao on the Island of Maui, Hawaii. As a young woman, she loved dancing and playing tennis with friends. She had a beautiful voice and loved listening and singing traditional Filipino and Spanish songs, as well as, nostalgic songs. Family and friends would often ask her to sing at family parties and community events. She was never shy, especially when performing with a big band orchestra.
She met the love of her life, Orcino Sison Asiatico, a US Navy sailor, while she was working for Pearl Harbor Naval Base, Honolulu, Hawaii. It was love at first sight for both. They courted and were married at the Naval Air Station Catholic Chapel, Barber’s Point, Hawaii and were together for more than 66 years. Together they had five children and built their family home nestled in the Waiau Community of Pearl City located near, which was once, sugar cane fields. She was the Matriarch of her family. She loved the traditions of her Filipino heritage that her parents instilled in her when growing up. From what she learned from her parents, she would prepare and cook traditional Filipino dishes for her family and friends and gatherings.
She loved sharing and teaching her traditions to others willing to learn. She liked planning family outings and gathering other family and friends for a picnic at the park or beach or at her home. She and her husband enjoyed learning and teaching ballroom dancing during their free time. She’d sometimes create and sew herself a special dress for parties and ballroom dancing. They both were a favorite couple on the dance floor that everyone wanted to take turns dancing with. She loved “Date Night” when she and her husband went out having fun ballroom dancing the night away.
She had a charitable heart when it came to giving to local and outside charities and organizations by donating and volunteering her time. She was a devoted Catholic and steward for her parish, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. She donated to various military and veteran organizations and loved volunteering at the Honolulu Airport USO Branch to welcome and greet arriving active duty military service men and women and their families to Hawaii. In her lifetime, she was special in her own way to each one she met and touched.
She will always be in our hearts and never forgotten. Four remaining children, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, and many nieces and nephews survive her. She was laid to rest with her beloved husband, Orcino (predeceased April 24, 2015), at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe, Hawaii on December 5, 2023.
