Laurel-Ann Minagawa Obituary
Laurel-Ann Ing Minagawa, 68, of Aiea, a retired Circuit Court Clerk for the State of Hawaii, passed away on December 16, 2023 at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital in Glendale, California. She was born on October 3, 1955 in Honolulu. She is survived by husband, Arthur Minagawa; sons, Grant, Kent (Darcy), and Paul Minagawa; grandson Noah Minagawa; and sister, Merrily-Ann Leong (Peter).
Her parents were Thomas Kam Tong Ing and Helen Young Ing. She was raised in Kaimuki, and graduated from Sacred Hearts Academy in 1973. She went on to pursue a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Art with a specialization in Textile Design, at the University of Hawaii, and graduated early in 1976. After a few short-term jobs, she was hired as a court clerk at the Hawaii State Judiciary. She moved up from the Small Claims Division at District Court to Civil Division, and finally Circuit Court, where she retired in 2019 after 38 years of service.
She married Arthur Minagawa in 1982. Together they had three sons, Grant, Kent and Paul, whom they raised in Aiea with help from parents on both sides. She was totally devoted to her family, and took great joy in spending time with and caring for her husband and sons. She was a proud mom, attending school functions and soccer games, and watching her sons grow into adults.
Laurel loved to travel, and was an expert at finding the best deals and planning itineraries. She and Arthur visited many cities and national parks on the mainland, as well as Canada, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and New Zealand. She enjoyed arts and crafts of all kinds, but especially painting and arranging flowers. She also liked gardening, taking walks in the neighborhood, and going shopping (especially if she could find good deals).
