Lourdes Acojido Obituary
Lourdes Bensan Acojido (née: Maria Lourdes Bensan), 105, of Ewa, Hawaii,
passed peacefully on August 16, 2024 with her loved ones by her side. She was
born on March 12, 1919 in Camiling, Tarlac, Philippines.
Lourdes Bensan graduated March 1937 from Colegia del Buen Consejo,
administered by Augustinian Sisters. She then enrolled at La Consolacion
College in Manila, graduating with a degree in elementary education, which led
to her teaching the English language at Paniqui Elementary School.
She married Eugenio M. Acojido (deceased 1991) and raised a family of 4
children, Mary Lou (Lando) Perez, Eugene (Marla) Acojido, Berta (Chris)
Herndon, and Evangeline Lee (deceased 1990; spouse, Rodney, deceased
2021).
She was an accomplished seamstress and made beautiful patchwork quilt
blankets for all of her family members; the final touch, a label that read “Made
Especially For You By Grandma” or … Mom”. She also loved to garden and
took special pride in her beautiful, colorful flowers and greenery.
In addition to English and Spanish, she was fluent in four Filipino dialects:
Pangasinan, Ilocano, Tagalog and Pampango. In the late 1960s, a friend
recruited her to serve as a Peace Corps staff teaching the different dialects to
Peace Corps volunteers on the Big Island of Hawaii before they were transferred
to the Philippines.
Mom/Grandma/Lola lived her 105 years to the fullest. Her legacy and life’s
values will live on through her children, 11 grandchildren, 17 great
grandchildren, and 18 great great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 04, 2024 at Mililani Mortuary Mauka Chapel.
Visitation begins at 9:30 am and service 10:30 am.
Burial to follow 12:30 pm at Mililani Memorial Park Cemetery.
