Lucia Daguman Mendoza's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Lucia “Lucy” Daguman Mendoza July 6, 1931 – October 16, 2025
Lucia “Lucy” Daguman Mendoza passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, surrounded by love and family. She was 94 years old.
Lucy was born on July 6, 1931, in Waipahu, Hawaii, to Esidro Daguman and Rupina Suan (both deceased). She grew up in Waipahu, where she witnessed history unfold during the bombings of Pearl Harbor. Those early years shaped her into the strong, resilient, and compassionate woman her family would always admire.
Lucy lived a full and remarkable life. She traveled the world alongside her husband, a U.S. Army sergeant, and together they made a home wherever life took them. After many adventures, they settled in San Francisco. In 2021, as her health declined, Lucy returned home to Waipahu — the place where her story began — to be surrounded by the love and care of her eldest daughter and family.
To everyone who knew her, Lucy was more than a wife, mother, grandmother, or aunty — she was the heart of the family. She loved deeply, gave generously, and had a way of making everyone feel seen and cared for. Her home was always open, her table always full, and her laughter could fill a room. She was Aunty Lucy to every generation — a guiding light, a storyteller, and a steady presence of love.
Lucy is survived by her beloved husband, Leonard Mendoza (Daly City, CA); daughter, Michelle (Mark) Heller (Pittsburg, CA); son-in-law, Ryan Herolaga; granddaughters, Yvette (Pablito) Amascual, Rochelyn (Stanley) Hasiak, Jasmine Herolaga-Batalla, and Kalea Heller (Redwood City, CA); great-grandchildren, Jennifer (Ronald) Greig, Jessica (Brandon) Gideon, Tatiana Herolaga, Gabriella Batalla, Rayna Batalla, Angeli Amascual, Amanda Herolaga, Keilani (Madison) Usi, Kapono Amascual, and Jhenaea Couch; and great-great-grandchildren, Bethany Gideon, Xayah Herolaga, Theodore Gideon, and Draven Do-Herolaga.
She is reunited in heaven with her daughter, Connie Herolaga, son, Ernest Pagente, brothers, Fred Daguman and Joseph Daguman, along with the many loved ones who went before her.
We will remember Lucy not just for the life she lived, but for the love she gave. Her spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of her family and all who were lucky enough to know her. She will be missed beyond words, and her memory will forever be a blessing.
