Luther I. Keanaaina's Obituary
Luther Keanaaina Obituary
With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of our father, Luther I. Keanaaina, who was 90 years old and lived in Waipahu, Hawaii. He left us on July 30, 2024, at his home, surrounded by love Luther was born on January 31, 1934, in the beautiful Kalaoa, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. He worked for over 40 years as the Lead Foreman at D.F. Builders Corp. (the Chun Brothers), where he took pride in supporting his cousin's business.
Dad had a rich social life; he and Mom were members of the Kona Club of Honolulu and the Pearl Harbor Hawaiian Civic Club. During his younger years, he played music with his brothers, known as the Keanaaina Brothers, where he met a hula dancer and his future wife, our mom, at the Kona Palms Hotel. Our parents' Catholic faith was fundamental to them; Dad baptized at Our Lady of Good Counsel and dedicated their time to volunteering for the Church.
Dad, a family man, poured his heart and soul into everything he did, always striving for perfection. He cherished the moments spent with his family and had a special bond with his beloved wife, "Momi." After her passing, he found comfort in visiting their favorite spots together, missing her dearly. He was passionate about music, especially playing his guitar and singing, often reminding us, "Take care of your instruments like you would take care of your wife."
Dad made a home for his family and welcomed the extended family who needed a place to stay, to get away, gather, celebrate, eat, and be merry, a place to talk any hour of the night. This is our mom and their generosity and the love of family. Mainly, playing music was his passion. Playing his uke before he went to work early in the morning for our mom and immediately would play his guitar when he would come home to sounds of Hui Ohana, Gabby Pahinui, Kahauanu Lake Trio, Ledward Kaapana, Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66', Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass 65', Tom Jones, Lou Rawls (Lady Love) he would often sing this to mom these are just a few of his favorites.
Dad is survived by his daughters and son: Michelle Keanaaina, Gina Keanaaina, Vicky (Dennis) Fallas, and Noe (Kevin) Joto; his son, Kihei (Betty) Keanaaina; as well as eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. His brother, Norman (Carol) Keanaaina of Kalaoa, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and loved ones. We want to extend a special aloha to our cousins Jinju Kondo, Wilsam Keanaaina, Kekai Keanaaina, Ashlee Martinez Keanaaina, Aiko Keanaaina, Jeffrey Gomes, Robin Gomes, and his grandson Nalu Rash.
