Lynden Nishi Obituary
Lynden K. Nishi, 81, passed away on Dec. 30, 2023. He was born in the Territory of Hawaii on Oct. 19, 1942, to Dr. Masao and Ellen Nishi. He grew up in Nuuanu and graduated from Punahou School in 1960, during which time he gained a lifelong passion for swimming while setting many records along the way. He then attended Indiana University, where he was a proud member of the I.U. swim team. After graduation, he returned home and worked for Coyne Mattress Co. (Serta) for many years, until retirement. In addition to swimming, Lynden enjoyed surfing, diving, family time at the beach in Haleiwa, cycling, and hiking/camping with friends until he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2013. Whether through work or social circles, Lynden was known for his smile and approachability, fostering deep and lifelong friendships. In 1970, Lynden married his wife of 53 yrs, Jackie. They had two sons, Toblyn (Laurel) and Cory (Jamie). The grandchildren: Bryce, Gabrielle, Maya and Cindy were the apple of his eye. Family always came first with Lynden. Lynden is also survived by his brother, Jeffrey. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Lynden’s life at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wahiawa (1611 California Ave.) on March 24th with visitation at 2:00 pm, Service at 3:00 pm, with a reception to follow. A private interment will be held later. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lynden’s memory may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or The Hawaii Parkinson’s Foundation. Aloha attire.
