Mary Valenciano Acosta, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away on March 9, 2024, at the age of 103 in California, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 1, 1920, in Banna, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, to Juan and Basilia Valenciano.
Mary's life was a testament to love, strength, and family. She was blessed with five children. Her legacy lives on through her 2 daughters and 3 sons, 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, 3 nephews, 7 grand nephews/nieces, and 2 great-great grand nephews/nieces.
Having lived for more than a century, Mary's journey took her from the Philippines to Hawaii at the age of 10, where she spent most of her life in Waianae, embracing the beauty of the islands and creating lasting memories with her community. In her final years, she found solace and comfort in the company of her family in California.
Mary was a dedicated farmer, tending to her pig farm, snail farm, fruit trees, and vegetable garden with passion and care. Her agricultural endeavors were a true reflection of her hard work and connection to the land, adding another dimension to her remarkable life story.
In addition to her farming endeavors, Mary was a seamstress for most of her life, showcasing her talent and creativity through her craft. Later in life, she also worked as airport security at Honolulu International Airport, further demonstrating her versatility and dedication to her work.
Mary Valenciano Acosta will be remembered for her unwavering love, resilience, and the profound impact she had on all who knew her. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family for generations to come.
