Mary-Lynn L. Silva Imai's Obituary
Mary-Lynn Silva Imai Obituary
Mary-Lynn (Silva) Imai was born on January 30, 1958 in Honolulu to parents Kenneth and Barbara Silva, the eldest of 4 children. She passed unexpectedly on November 20, 2022 at her home in Mililani.
She is survived by her children Misty, Mandy, Kolby and Klinton; siblings Kenneth, Tamara and Scott; and grandchildren Macy-Lynn, Matthew, Mason, Maddox and Mackenzie.
While not highly educated, her natural intelligence served her well as a (mostly) single mother of 4. She spent much of her work life in food service, both as a restaurant server for many years and in a bakery. Family and friends remember her ability to make simple foods taste absolutely delicious and so many of her dishes like her Portuguese Bean Soup, Squid Luau and Banana Bread, remain unparalleled.
She was an avid and voracious reader, effortlessly devouring both fiction and non-fiction titles. This lifelong love of reading contributed to her becoming a highly skilled and competitive Scrabble player. She always had an edge over her challengers and she won far more games than she lost. She loved movies, tv shows and pop culture in general and was great at storing and referencing that information for others well before we could easily do so with a simple google search.
She was a proficient seamstress, making most of her daughters' clothes for much of their formative years. She was able to whip out costumes and last-minute dresses in a day's time with ease, a skill she was not able to pass on to any of her children. She tried.
She loved her grandchildren and spending time with them always put her in a happier mood. They, too, loved their Nana Darling.
She was all these and so much more and her family and friends will miss her dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Ali'i Beach Park in Haleiwa near the lifeguard stand from 11a-3p. We invite all who knew her to join us and share stories, food and love.
