Meyer Aaron "Mike" Washofsky Obituary
Baruch Dayan HaEmet… It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of member and community pillar, Mike Washofsky.
Meyer Aaron “Mike” Washofsky, passed away March 16, 2025 - one month shy of his 92nd birthday. Mike was born in the segregated South during the Depression and rose to become a respected member of every community he was a part of. He was quite the accomplished man, successful in all three of his careers. First, as an Air Force pilot, the job that brought him and his family to Hawaii in 1969. Then as the Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Hawaii and finally as the Director of the Center for Executive Development at the Business School at the University of Hawaii. He brought a sharp mind, a clear sense of what was right and wrong and a wonderful sense of humor to everything he did. He was fortunate enough to have two loving wives in Rachelle, who passed away in 1980, and Deborah, his wife of 44 years. Mike had two children, Craig and Anne (who died in 2013), four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He relished his time with his family and loved watching his grandchildren grow up. Mike was present at the Bris of his first Great Grandchild, an incredibly moving experience. His last few years were lost to dementia, but his contributions to our Country, our State, to the Jewish Community and to the extended Washofsky family will be forever remembered. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Library at Temple Emanu-El (www.shaloha.com) or to Jewish Community Services of Hawaii (https://www.jcs-hi.org/).
The funeral will be at Mililani Memorial Park on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 9:00am, followed by a Celebration of Life and meal of consolation beginning at 11:00am at Temple Emanu-el.
Zichrono Livracha, May the memory of Mike Washofsky continue for a blessing.
