Michiko Iguchi's Obituary
Michiko Iguchi Obituary
Michiko Iguchi, 104, passed away peacefully at her Pearl City home on October 30, 2024. Born in the year women achieved the right to vote, she witnessed the visit of President FDR to the Pearl City Peninsula in the 30’s and the tragic events of December 7, 1941. A former cafeteria manager at Pearl City Elementary School for many years, she was an honoree for the State of Hawaii Governor’s Award for Distinguished State Service in 1985, representing the DOE. She was a longtime HGEA member and a charter member of Pearl City Community Church. Always a faithful servant of God, it was there that she played an instrumental role in coordinating the famous Pearl City Community Church Annual Luau for 50 years, bringing together not only her church family but the entire community. A resident of Pearl City from its beginning as a hamlet somewhere between the Aiea and Waipahu sugar mills, she observed its gradual change from “country” to “central”. As much as she missed the old days, her affection for her town never wavered and she found great joy in sharing her knowledge of its special history. She will be remembered for her generosity and kindness to friends old and new, and her love for her family. Preceded in death by her 12 beloved siblings, she is survived by her large extended family, including numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Pearl City Community Church. Visitation begins at 3:00 p.m. and service at 4:30 p.m. The family kindly requests no monetary gifts or flowers.
