Mom was born on January 25, 1927 and was the fourth of five children of Toyozo and Kiku Isobe. She grew up in Kakaako and attended Central Intermediate and McKinley High Schools. She was an accomplished seamstress after graduating from the Style Center Sewing School soon after high school and retired from the Federal government as a Clerk Typist after over 30 years of faithful service. In 1950 she married Dad (Richard), with whom she would spend the next 70 years together raising a family of four boys. As a result of their hard work and perseverance, they were able to move from their humble beginnings in a small enclosed garage on Holai St. on the slopes of Diamond Head, to the Manoa Housing complex, then to purchasing their own home in Kaimuki in 1955.Throughout the years, Mom was the epitome of a dedicated wife and mother, always putting her family before anything else. She sacrificed personal luxuries and effectively managed the family finances to ensure that all of us received what we needed at all stages of our lives. Mom was always there to support and help us no matter what the situation. She was Dad's best friend, Scrabble, Hanafuda, and Las Vegas partner for over 70 years. They literally did everything together and were a great example for us of love and caring between a husband and wife. Even when she got the urge to travel to different places, she stuck with Dad who as content to just go to Vegas. Something that many wives wouldn't do.We were truly blessed to have had her in our lives for an additional 36 years after she survived a serious bout with pancreatic cancer back in 1985. This "extra life" with the family has had a great impact in all of our lives.During her final years, Mom hung in there for Dad and us, even while suffering through pain and the frustration of not being able to move about on her own. Although her memory wavered at bit, her mind and spirit remained relatively sound. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard, four sons Robert (Chris), Dennis (Brenda), Ronald (Gwen) and Isaac (Sabrina), six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, Toyozo and Kiku Isobe, brother Sakuichi, and sisters, Helen, Edith, and Hazel."O Kage Sama De" - We are who we are because of you -Thank you for all your sacrifices and caring. We love you.Your loving sons ...
