Nisa Tyrell Lavata'i Obituary
Nisa Ieremia Mose Tyrell Lavata’i
September 27, 1961 – October 2, 2019
Nisa Ieremia Mose Tyrell Lavata’i, a resident of Humble, Texas, was born on September 27, 1961, in the village of Utulei, American Samoa, and raised in the pineapple plantation community of Poamoho in Wahiawa, Hawaii, home of the Mighty Mules.
Nisa held her family very close to her heart. She was their rock. Nisa is survived by her husband of 34 years, Joseph Tulei Lavata’i, her sons Justin (Puanisha) and Jonah, and her grandchildren Sagatea Joseph, Jennifer and Janina, her greatest blessings.
2 Timothy 4:7: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Nisa was a true warrior who battled cancer with dignity, courage and grace. A woman of strong faith, Nisa had an infectious smile and a warm and loving personality. Nisa loved listening to her sons sing, passing on life lessons to them, and marveling with joy at her three grandchildren. Nisa valued her family and friends, and welcomed those close to her into her heart and home.
Nisa is preceded in death by her father Ieremia Mose Tyrell. She is survived by her mother Tialuga Hunkin Tyrell, her special auntie (and second mom) Mele Hunkin Brown, her brothers Folau Hunkin, Ieremia Mose, Jr Tyrell (Elyse), and Ulysses Tyrell; her sisters Sialasa (Randy) Sanborn, Elsie (Pete) Thompson, Jennifer (Pati) Levi, Sally Nisa Hunkin, Naomi (Suapi) Lake, Maleka (Collin) Bode, Matelina “Lucy” Aleki and Sally (Peter) Tomas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nisa was employed by United Airlines as a Systems Tracing Clerk at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH). Nisa was an extraordinarily hard worker, but enjoyed her downtime as much as anyone, and she had a particular affinity for Bingo.
Visitation will be 9:00 am Saturday November 2, 2019 at Olive United Methodist Church (Wahiawa, HI). Celebration of Life at 10:00 am. Burial to follow 1:30 pm at Mililani Memorial Park.
