Life has been so rewarding to have known and spent time with you, Patty! I saw and felt your pain for so many years as you went through your CA especially the last 2 years. You have shown and taught me, and for so many of us, so much about the meaning of life: that no matter how bad things are, there is a way to find something to live for, something to be grateful for. Thank you for being a wonderful sister in-law, although I have always said to you that you are more than an in-law to me. I will miss our text messages of reminding each other to pray the rosary and how grateful and proud we are on how great your children are. The love does not end here, you may be gone out of sight but your memories stay in my heart forever. Be well in Heaven my dearest, and Pls hug Ferdie, Tatay & Nanay, Mng Lerma, & Apong for me.
I remember Party Cakes who was my mentor as a new nurse. I started a new career after being home with my girls for 10 yrs and prior to that working for the U.S. Navy. I was working with nurses who were so generous with their negativity because of their own insecurities. Pat spoke to me in our native tongue and would reassure me that I was doing fine. Just ignore their poison. She taught about staying me without reacting to the negativity around me. Patty made it her mission to bring me back in to our people's way of being by feeding me lunch of Filipino dishes. I was so greatful.I will love her forever for bringing me back into the fold through our language and foods.If truth be known though my language was a hybrid of Visayan, Tagalog and English. Vitaglish. She would laugh and tell me she didn't understand me. Ah! The plight of a mestiza. So back to English it was. We would laugh about our way of life in the U.S. In the Philippines we had maids. Here in the U.S. we are the maids.She was a great mother, a very dedicated wife and a great friend. Her Friday dance was what we looked forward to. I wish I saw her one more time but I'll see her once more one day. Pat loved my ironic sarcasm. It would make her laugh at me so hard. I hope she welcomes me on the other side and once again takes my hand. I will miss you Patricia Liwanag. Aim high🚀Explode 💥into a thousand 🌠🌟✨. I have so many wonderful memories of her. One that sticks in my memory is when she got off the phone a work after finding out she passed her RN boards. She knelt on the floor and prayed. I was so overwhelmed with happiness and joy for her. She was amazing in so many ways. Smart, funny and never afraid to tackle that difficult parent with kindness and a smile. I am forever thankful for having her for a friend.
