Paulino Basilio's Obituary
Our beloved father “Pops”, grandfather “Papa”, and husband, Paulino Basilio, 80, passed away courageously and peacefully on April 19, 2026, surrounded by family and friends who loved him dearly.
Paulino was a man whose life was defined by resilience, generosity, loyalty, and deep love for those around him. Raised in Kunia Homestead and later moving to Whitmore Village, he experienced a challenging upbringing, but formed lasting bonds along the way, embraced by many “hānai” families who became a part of his story.
He served his country with honor after being drafted into the U.S. Army, spending two years of service during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he built a long and steady career at Longs Drugs warehouse, where he worked for 34 years and showed amazing work ethics.
In his younger days, Paulino loved surfing and running, and throughout his life he enjoyed working on cars, bowling, golfing, fishing, traveling, and watching sports—especially cheering on his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers. Paulino was a lifelong lover of music. He cherished “kanikapila”—singing and playing music with close friends and family—creating joyful memories that will live on in the hearts of those who shared those moments with him. He also loved taking trips to Las Vegas where he never boasted about his humble winnings, but his most often and simple joys were sharing a cold Heineken with family and friends and taking care of Grandma.
Paulino was known for his warmth, hospitality, and unforgettable smile. He had a special gift—he could meet someone for the first time and, by the end of the conversation, make them feel like family. People naturally felt comfortable, welcomed, and loved in his presence.
Paulino found his greatest joy in the life he built with his wife, Jeannie, and their family. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren above all else. Whether it was sharing stories, laughter, or simply being together, those moments meant everything to him.
He is survived by mother-in-law, Margaret Galeon; beloved wife of 57 years, Jeannie Basilio; half-sister, Glenice Furuya; son Jarratt Basilio (Brooke) and their children Tayzha, Nevaeh, and Kairi; son, Patrick Basilio and his children Paige, Peyton, and Olivia; daughter, Patrice Shibayama (Chad) and their children Leila and Rylen; and daughter Jeanine Kaulia (Ikaika) and their children Kylie, Izea, and Kam.
Paulino Basilio came into this world with very little, but through hard work, strength, and heart, he built a life rich in love and family. He leaves behind a legacy of character, courage, connection, and unconditional love that will live on through all who knew him.
