Pete Duhay Obituary
Pete Duhay
August 29, 1929-October 12, 2022
Pete Duhay passed away peacefully at the impressive age of 93 years young in Honolulu Hawaii. Formally Pedro Duhaylonsod, Pete was born on August 29 1929 in Kahuku Hawaii. He was the 2nd eldest of the clan born to Ambrosio and Aliha Duhaylonsod.
Pete graduated from Farrington High School and became a member of The Hawaiian National Guard Band playing trumpet. He became a very proud member of the United States military joining the Army in 1948. He served in Hawaii, Germany, France, Taiwan, Vietnam, and various locations in the U.S. He retired in 1969 as master sergeant in traffic management.
After retiring from the Army, Pete worked as a veteran outreach college counselor at Fort Steilacoom College and vocational counselor at Clover Park Tech.
When the Army sent him to Germany, he met and married his former wife, Sophie. Together they raised a family of 3 boys and 1 girl, and they all traveled wherever the army needed them, packing up and moving about every 3 years.
Pete was a fun loving and playful family man. As a father he was culturally well rounded and incorporated the arts and creativity into his young family. He was a strict disciplinarian regarding school academics. Sports was also very important in Pete’s life. He made sure that his family knew how to play volleyball, baseball and coached them in his community as well. He was always one to lend a helping hand, especially with mechanics and woodwork.
Then there was his music. Teaching, singing, and playing different musical instruments. What he really enjoyed the most was playing his guitar while his family and friends sang along. He had a variety of musical tastes ranging from Jazz to the Classics to the Beatles and beyond. Heaven has a new band member now as he was a natural born musician.
Pete was the 2nd oldest of 8 children. He was predeceased by his parents and 5 siblings: Virginia Batungbacal, Delfin Duhaylonsod, Betty Deinhardt, Frances Munar, and Fred Duhaylonsod. He is survived by his oldest sister Remie Magalion of HI, youngest brother Ronald Duhaylonsod(Ginger) of HI, children Peter Duhay of WA, Paul Duhay (Sherry) of WA, Patrick Duhay (Charla) of AZ and daughter Sonya Steele of WA, grandchildren Ryan Steele, Alexys Cupper and Ryan Callahate, 3 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Pete was a respectable, intelligent, and independent man with a never-ending supply of dad jokes and a unique sense of humor. Truly one of a kind. He will be missed by all and lovingly welcomed into Heaven’s gates. Much Aloha and may God bless you forever, dear Dad.
