Peter Clinton Emerson's Obituary
Peter Clinton Emerson Obituary
Peter was the second son born January 15, 1947 in Providence Rhode Island. His older brother Robert was two years older. Four years later, Thomas came, and four years after their only sister, Judy was born. He helped in the fish industry as a teen, and was always happy in the water.
At seventeen, he graduated Gorton High School, in Warwick, RI. He joined the US Navy in October 1964. He spent the next 26 years serving in the submarine community. When not on the sub, he was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Sasebo, Japan, and his final shore duty was at NAVCAMS EASTPAC in Wahiawa, where he met his life partner, Michelle. He retired as the highest enlisted rank, and worked as a radioman in communications. RMCM was his rank.
In his thirties, he dated Alice, and while they did not marry, they had Andrew. She was in Florida with Pete when he was stationed in Jacksonville. She moved back to Rhode Island where Andrew was born. Peter stayed in his life and saw him often. He called and wrote regularly. He was six when Pete and Michelle married.
After his naval retirement in 1990, he followed Michelle’s career. His second career was as a Residential Property Manager first, and then as a Commercial property manager through a number of companies. He was released in a management shift at 62, and took early retirement. He loved to fish, kayak, garden and play with the Dachshunds. He was introduced to the XBOX at 60 and became more than an avid player for the remainder of his life. His favorite game was Destiny then Destiny II.
Michelle and Pete traveled extensively: Africa (Kenya and Tanzania), Australia (Sydney, Uluru, and Port Douglas), Alaskan cruise and land tour, Mediterranean cruise-Italy, France, Croatia. The first cruise was in the Caribbean.
He lived in California, Rhode Island, Florida, England, Japan, and Hawaii. He spent time in the Republic of the Philippines and Thailand.
His favorite season was autumn. He favorite movie was Casablanca. As soon as the four grandchildren came along, annual trips to see them became the norm. In 2021, the family came to Hawaii, for a wonderful Christmas vacation, soon after Peter was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.
He was married and divorced from Michelle. However, they remained friends, and when it was clear Peter needed help, Michelle moved back to be caregiver until his death. He was loyal, kind, and generous in his lifetime.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Mililani Presbyterian Church. Visitation begins at 1:15 pm and service at 2:00 pm.
