Rae Sachiko Charo's Obituary
Rae Charo Obituary
Rae Sachiko Charo was born on November 14, 1971 Honolulu, Hawaii. Rae went to be with our Lord and her father James Hirokawa on August 14, 2023. She is survived by her sons Rylan Sakai, and Jonathan Charo, Jr.; stepson, Victor Charo; daughter Alyssa Sakai; mother June K Hirokawa; and sister, Lisa Clifford (John).
Rae was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii in the Aliamanu / Salt Lake area. As a child she had a natural talent for music and played the violin for 6 years and was part of the Moanalua High School Orchestra and the Hawaii Youth Symphony. She also danced hula as a child and adult, and developed a beautiful singing voice wowing all of us when she picked up the mic during Karaoke. In addition to orchestra, she was a member of the Moanalua High School Marching Band Colorguard for all 4 years. But of all the arts, she showed the most joy while she danced Hula.
Rae went to University of Hawaii and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Speech. For over 20 years she was a human resources employee and manager at several companies including Crazy Shirts, Title Guaranty, Servco, and most recently Hawaiian Airlines. It didn’t matter where she worked, she was always giving 110% and showing how valuable she was to the company.
Rae loved traveling and throughout her life was able to travel to Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Japan, and many of the united states. She loved seeing new places, shopping and buying omiyage (take home gifts for others).
Everyone that knew Rae would say that she was the most thoughtful and giving person. She would take every opportunity to show her generosity and would use her gift of creativity to make crafts and put together events. From her children’s birthday parties, to holidays, wedding events, and graduations, she gave her all to show how much she cared. Her home became a craft store filled with centerpieces, picture frames, gift baskets and favors. There was a treat for every holiday to bring to her office, or to send with her kids for their friends. She found great pleasure in giving. The last event she was able to put together was her daughter’s graduation party in June. It meant so much to her to be able to do that for her.
And finally, Rae’s greatest joys were her kids. She was so proud of their accomplishments and the amazing people they have become. Her kids were her main driving force for wanting to fight so hard during her health challenges. The life she lived will be an incredible example for her kids on how to give it your all and how to show others how much you care. May she now rest in peace with our Lord in Heaven.
