Raynard S. B. Kim, 74, passed away on September 11, 2022, in Sugar Land, Texas.
Ray graduated from Leilehua High School in 1965. He attended the University of Hawaii before joining the US Army, and serving in the Vietnam war as part of the Army's Artillery/Radar Corps. After his service, he graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
During his successful decades-long career, Ray was a specialist in petroleum refinery construction and maintenance. He worked for highly-regarded engineering firms, such as Fluor Corporation, Bechtel, and for Kellogg, Brown and Root as a Project Manager in Houston, Texas. He worked on multiple projects, traveled extensively, and lived in various locations in the United States, China, Thailand, Singapore, and Belgium. He was also a civilian engineering consultant in Iraq and Kuwait during the Gulf War. He enjoyed leisure travel with his family, including cruises to Mexico, Japan and Europe.
Ray retired in 2016 leaving him plenty of time for gardening, bicycle riding, working on his golf swing, and driving and racing his red Porsche 911 Turbo S.
The son of the late Raymond and Doris Kim, Ray is survived by his daughter Lauren Kim, sister Dorynne (Dori) Kim and ex-spouse Pauline Kim.
A remembrance gravesite service/burial will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, 11:30 a.m., at Mililani Memorial Park.
