Richard Yamashige Obituary
Richard Isami Yamashige
Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Richard Isami Yamashige passed away in peace on November 12, 2020 at the age of 91.
Richard will be remembered for his love of travel, food, golf and music. His career as a civil servant took him from his hometown of Waipahu, Hawaii to Japan, where he met his wife Dorothy and had three girls – Cheryl, Teri and Joy. He also worked in Taiwan, Thailand and Korea, bringing his family along and making many, many friends along the way. An adventurer at heart, Richard traveled the world, visiting China, Germany, Italy, Morocco, Portugal, Vietnam and many places in between.
A happy guy who loved to laugh and bring people together, Richard was known for his famous homemade saimin and whopper won tons, countless New Year’s feasts featuring his delicious ozoni soup, and frequent weekend bar-b-ques. He was a great dancer, golfer, football spectator and was among the first to own a personal computer from which he sent many funny e-mails.
He is survived by wife Dorothy, sister Marjorie Kosaka, daughters Cheryl (Blane), Teri (Gary) and Joy (Edmund), and grandchildren Staci, Nicklaus, Chelsea and Rachel.
The family would like to give special thanks to Aiea Senior Living and Islands Hospice for the kindness and care they gave Richard during the last years of his life.
A private service will be held at Mililani Memorial Park due to Covid-19.
