Riki Kubo, 90, passed away with her care-giver Rose Tablisma at her side, on Sept 16, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tetsu Kubo and brothers Taro, Jiro, Saburo, Shiro Fujimori. Survived by sisters Mutsu (Norman) Higa, Nao Fuchigami, Yae Yamashita, Yoi (Herbert) Endo, Amy Fujimori and widow Mildred, of her brother Saburo and nieces and nephews and cousins.
Born in Kona to Thomas R. and Grace M.Fujimori, she graduated from Konawaena High with honors in Math. Hard-working and responsible raised as the eldest daughter to help with housework and babysitting siblings. Went to work as a nanny for Principal Eshelman’s family. Later, worked at Marumoto Store and Machado Store. Until, her mom, finally let her go to Honolulu where she held various jobs, the longest at Ben Franklin (a 5 & Dime) Store. After her marriage, they moved to Wahiawa where she worked at Schofield PX, then in the warehouse until her retirement.
Being friendly and outgoing, she got to know her neighbors. After Tetsuo died, she took lessons and got her driver’s license, at 60. She got to be great friends with her neighbor Moe Padilla.
After a stroke, she was wheelchair bound and could no longer live independently and moved in with Rose and Claude Tabilisma who gave her exceptional care, until her passing.
