Robert Thomas Chee passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on September 9, 1939, Robert lived a life defined by service, leadership, dedication to family, and a deep appreciation for the things he loved most.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Faye Ellen Chee, and their three children, Thad Chee, Marc Chee, and Noelani Chee. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Honu, Teagan,
Alexandra, Maverick and Kailani who brought him great joy and pride. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose strength, wisdom, and sense of responsibility left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Robert was also very friendly and widely known for the large number of friends and
acquaintances he maintained throughout his life. His warmth, approachability, and genuine interest in others made him someone people naturally gravitated toward, and he built lasting relationships across both his professional and personal life.
A respected law enforcement and security professional, Robert dedicated more than five decades of his life to public service and security management. His distinguished career began with the Honolulu Police Department, where he served as a police officer, detective, training sergeant, pursuit driving instructor, and firearms training sergeant. He later served the State of Hawaii in numerous leadership positions within the Department of Public Safety, helping develop training programs, policies, and organizational structures that continue to influence law enforcement operations today.
Throughout his career, Robert was recognized for his ability to build and lead organizations, develop innovative training programs, and manage large-scale security operations. He held executive leadership roles with AKAL Security, Andrews International, and Professional Security Consultants, overseeing security operations throughout the Pacific region. His expertise, professionalism, and commitment to excellence earned the respect of colleagues and public officials alike.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Robert found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved boats and especially enjoyed deep sea fishing, spending many memorable hours on the ocean pursuing the challenge and tranquility it offered. He was also passionate about cars, and one of his favorite hobbies was fixing cars, often spending time working on engines and mechanical projects.
In his retirement, Robert cherished his time on Hawaiʻi Island, where he spent many peaceful days at his retirement home in Kona. It was a place of rest, reflection, and connection to the island life he loved.
Perhaps nothing brought him more happiness than his dogs. Robert had a special affection for German Shepherds and Shetland Sheepdogs (Shelties), breeds he admired for their intelligence, loyalty, and companionship. His dogs were cherished members of the family and constant companions over the years.
Robert will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, strong work ethic, leadership, devotion to family, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life. He leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, and connection that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Celebration of life to be held on June 14, 2026, at Mililani Mortuary Downtown.
