Rosalie Shatto Obituary
Rosalie Helen Shatto, 104, died peacefully on January 3, 2019 in Kapolei, Hawaii. She was born on August 25, 1914 in Long Branch, New Jersey, to Francesco “Frank” Carlidge and Giovanna Fiore Carlidge. She graduated from Long Branch Senior High School. She married Harvey Homer “Bob” Shatto in New Jersey and they had three children together, Jane (Bart) Rice of Hawaii, Ronald Shatto of New Jersey, and Alan (Kathleen) Shatto of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Port St Lucie, Florida; her daughter-in-law, Karen Woolley Shatto, and a granddaughter, Leigh Ann Shatto, of New Jersey; also, her siblings, Martin Carlidge, Josephine Cittadino Maher, Helen Chiarovano, and her step-mother, Jeannette Cannella Carlidge. She is survived by her half-sister, Frances Carlidge Bloom, of Iowa.
Rosalie was a remarkably active woman throughout her entire life. In Florida, she participated in the Savanna Club lifestyle for many years before moving to Hawaii to live with her daughter and son in law in Ko Olina. She loved to line dance and performed with her dance group, Rockin’ Boots. She was an ace at cards, dominoes and mahjong, and a competitor on the bocce and shuffleboard courts.
Rosalie was active in the Women’s Club, Book Clubs, and the Irish and Italian American Clubs. She attended endless functions, dances, shows, and theater. As a Red Hatter, she wore red and purple, and was always ready for fun. She liked to travel, and often reminisced over her travel photos. She celebrated many wonderful birthday parties surrounded by family and friends.
Rosalie was a warm, loving mother and grandmother. She will be missed by her children, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild, and a niece and nephews.
She was a devout Catholic and a member of St Jude’s Catholic Church in Kapolei. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St Jude’s Catholic Church on February 8, 2019 at 11:00am, by Fathers Khanh and Mario. A reception will follow after Mass at the church.
