Samson Kama, Sr. Obituary
Devoted Husband & Father, so much Aloha, loved & respected by many!
On Saturday, November 11, 2023 Samson Kuupunahele Kama Sr, 52, passed away at
The Queen’s Medical Center-West O’ahu. He is survived by the love of his life, Kanani
and his 4 children, Shaun-Te “Shugz”, Shea-Lah “Shea”, Samson Jr. “Puna” (Chaeani)
and Stylon, granddaughter Honesty and God-daughter Cherish Akana.
Samson was preceded in death by his father; Samuel Kama, older brother; Samuel
Kama Jr. paternal grandparents; Benjamin & Josephine Kama and maternal
grandparents; Daniel & Pearl Punihaole. He leaves behind his mother; Elizabeth
“Momi,” younger brother Sanford(Ailene) & two sisters; Sandee(Joseph) Moiha and
SamanthaLee, along with a huge ‘ohana!
Samson brought his ‘ohana together as he made the connections through genealogy
research. And in this research he found a passion in the sovereign initiative; igniting
within him the understanding of who he is as a kanaka… Having gained knowledge of
his identity as an indigenous man, Samson found himself immersed in the richness of
history and culture bringing about a mission fueled with love that spanned lifetimes of
our ancestors into the lives of each other.
He was an enthusiast of many things; chickens & dogs, cars & car audio. He was a 4-H
Club Leader for the Double Deckers II. He coached T-Ball, when his kids were growing
up, coached football from Nanakuli Pop Warner, Maili Hawaiian Warriors, Nanakuli
Hawks to Hawaiian Warriors Semi-Pro. He was a steward of the Bully Community to
bring awareness of the dog breed American Bully and encouraged good dog ownership
responsibility to the next generation, junior handlers with the help of the Leaders of
American Bullies of the Pacific and its members.
Samson expressed his love for people wholeheartedly. “I’ve seen many people
throughout my years showing respect to him.” stated by his sister Sandee. She also
wants people to know that “even though he may have looked hardcore, he was a big
teddy bear.“ His cousin Allen states, “Stubborn mind, but loving heart” and “ Ability to
see the good in people.” His cousin Shawn says, “Thoughtful, Smart, Big Hearted,
Loved Kids, Loved Dogs, Great Husband, Dad, Son, Brother and Cousin,” “Always
Blunt when needed.” “Meeting him, knowing him, and being able to call him cousin is
truly a gift from God.” says his cousin Melanie. To sum it all up, “Samson was genuine
in who he was, and never shied away from anyone, even in all of life’s complexities. He
was a man that I was blessed to walk through life with” - Kanani
