Shigeo Teruya Obituary
Shigeo “Shag” Teruya, 93, was born in Ewa on August 17, 1929 to Kenji and Kameko Teruya. He was the second oldest of four children.
Shigeo attended Ewa School till the 8th grade and soon after attended a vocational school with Uncle Mits. He later graduated in 1947 as a machinist. After having various jobs, he became a bike mechanic for Eki Cyclery which inspired him to attend New York Tech Trade School. There he became an auto mechanic at Volkswagen Hawaii and retired at the age of 63 years old.
During retirement, his pastimes were gardening, watching CNN and Korean drama, as well as traveling to Las Vegas; playing craps. His best two gifts were marrying Grace Yoshiko Shimabukuro in 1957 and the welcoming of his only son, Joey Shigeyoshi, on August 17, 1958.
He will forever be remembered for his country, down to earth style of living. Shigeo, better known as Grandpa T, passed away in Ewa on April 22, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Grace, son, Joey (Candace), and grandson, J.J.
