Sunshine "Sunny" Susan Paʻaluhi
August 30, 1974 - June 10, 2026
With profound love and gratitude, we celebrate the life of Sunshine "Sunny" Susan Paʻaluhi, who peacefully entered eternal rest on June 10, 2026, at the age of 51.
Born on August 30, 1974, in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, Sunny lived a life that beautifully reflected her name. She was a radiant source of warmth, compassion, and aloha whose light touched every person fortunate enough to know her. Whether meeting someone for the first time or reconnecting with an old friend, Sunny had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved.
Sunny was the beloved daughter of David Paʻaluhi Sr. and Gwen Paʻaluhi and grew up surrounded by the love of her siblings: Dini, Bull, Momi, Morgan, and Vanessa. She attended school in Nānākuli, where she formed lifelong friendships and developed the caring spirit that would become the hallmark of her life. Sunny's journey of service began in healthcare, where she worked as a home health aide, driven by her deep compassion for caring for others. Guided by her passion for helping people grow and succeed, she later found her calling in education, earning a Bachelor's degree in Psychology followed by a Master's degree in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction.
Education was more than a career for Sunny; it was her calling. As an educator, teacher, and program manager, she dedicated herself to uplifting children, supporting families, and mentoring fellow educators. She believed every child deserved to be seen, encouraged, and allowed to thrive. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom, leaving a lasting impact on countless students, colleagues, and communities.
Above all, Sunny's greatest joy was her ʻohana. She was a devoted mother to Elijah, Mike, Jaden, and Michael, and a proud, adoring Gigi whose heart overflowed with love for her moʻopuna: Nox, Lulu, Fang, Kiawe, Lōlā, Makaliʻi, and Baby M. Nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with her family, celebrating milestones, creating memories, and surrounding those she loved with unwavering support.
Sunny embraced life with curiosity and gratitude. She found adventure in reading, joy while hiking, and inspiration through traveling. Wherever life took her, she embodied aloha and effortlessly turned strangers into lifelong friends.
Those who knew Sunny will remember her generous spirit, infectious smile, genuine kindness, and extraordinary ability to bring people together. She never hesitated to lend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement, or open her heart to someone in need. She beautifully showed that the greatest measure of a person is their deep love and care for others.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind and the enduring legacy of aloha she entrusted to all of us. Her spirit lives on in the warmth of the Hawaiian sun, the gentle makani, the rhythm of the ocean, and in every act of kindness shared in her honor.
The Paʻaluhi ʻohana extends a heartfelt mahalo to all who have surrounded them with love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. As we celebrate Sunny's extraordinary life, may we continue to live as she did, with open hearts, generous hands, and aloha for all.
Aloha ʻoe, Sunny. A hui hou.
Until we meet again, your light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who love you.
