Teruo Mende's Obituary
Teruo Mende Obituary
Teruo Mende was born on March 15, 1927, in Waialua, HI. He passed away at home at the age of 98 on June 20, 2025.
He is survived by his wife, Mitsuko Mende; his daughters Jane Onoye, Alice Mende, and Linda Mende; grandchildren Jodi Onoye, Jake Onoye, Ashleigh Oshiro; and siblings Sachi Ono, Hiroji Mende, Mitsue Teruya.
Often a quiet person, Teruo also had a great sense of humor. His younger sister mentioned that he was a prankster in his youth, which he continued being into his golden years. He enjoyed making his young grandchild laugh and playing tricks on his daughter even in his last days. In his long life, he was the epitome of hard work, endurance, and loyalty to support his family and the dreams of his children. As a jack of all trades, he used his keen intelligence to fix just about anything at home and for friends and family. He used his extensive knowledge and experience at work, finally retiring in his early 80s. In his golden years, Teruo was a professional napper who would often joke that he was just “resting his eyes”. He enjoyed time with his dogs, eating mocha and his favorite goodies, watching his favorite samurai shows, and listening to his favorite classical music. He will be lovingly remembered by family and friends whose lives he touched.
The funeral service will be held privately in September.
