Valentine "Val" Kukahiko Obituary
Valentine "Val" Aikue (Leialoha) Kukahiko, born February 14, 1947, passed away on April 3, 2023, at age 76. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We are at peace for Val was a child of Jesus Christ and is reigning in heaven above!
Val was born on February 14, 1947, in Ka'alaea, HI, where he spent his childhood years, attending Waiahole Elementary and Intermediate School. He was a graduate of James Castle High School in Kaneohe, HI, Class of 1966. He later enlisted in the U.S. Military Army where he served in Vietnam in the early 1970's. After returning home to Hawaii, he later became a Federal Firefighter, where he retired as a Captain in February 2005, serving 33 years. Throughout his life he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others.
"Papa" Val was a devoted father and grandpa. He LOVED spending time with his grandchildren the most, frequently taking them out to eat, watching them play sports, and hauling them to the movies. His selfless heart was always willing to drop whatever he was doing to be a helping hand and a strong support for any of those in need. In his free time, you would find him hanging out in his garage listening to Hawaiian music, working on his classic cars, manicuring his yard or playing with his fur babies. He was definitely a dog lover and always had one with him throughout his years. He was the "Hawaiian" on the block of Kaupea Homestead in Kapolei, HI, where he made an impression on all the neighbors by keeping a watchful eye in the community.
Val is survived by his loving wife, Cheri Ann (Duncan) Kukahiko; their remarkable children, Francine Kaleiokalani (Raphael "Beau" Kealohanui III), Laurel Leina'ala (Elijah Almeida), Elijah Dean Benjamin "Kawika" James, Natasha Kaleinani James, Chelsy Ann Napualani (Scott De Coito), Brianna Kaleipuananiokala (Christian Kahalehoe), Jacob Kamuela (Rachael Garcia), 20 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and his beloved sister, Taira Kukahiko. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him and his legacy will live on forever.
