Valerie "Val" Elizabeth Tacub Bactad's Obituary
Valerie “Val” Elizabeth Tacub Bactad, born on September 26, 1941, transcended on January 26, 2026. She was a loving wife to Herbert Bactad, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage, and a devoted mother to her four children: Duke Bactad, Toni Bactad, Herb Bactad, and Rina (Jimmy) Mariano.
A cherished Tutu, she is survived by her grandchildren JJ and Tatiana Mariano, and great‑grandchildren Kekoa and Jayden Mariano. She is also survived by her brothers William “Mokihana” Tacub (Elyse) of Maui and Bonny “Sonny” Coloma (Susan); nephews Christopher Coloma, Keoki Tacub of Colorado, Tyler Tacub‑Janeiro of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Brandon Tacub of Maui; and niece Jessie Ann Tacub.
She is preceded in death by her parents Eufemio Tacub and Elizabeth Coloma, her brothers Eufemio “Butch” Tacub and George Anthony Tacub, and her great‑grandson Keanu Mariano.
Val shared her warm, nurturing spirit with everyone around her. A lifelong caregiver, she devoted many years to providing day‑care services for the children of working parents, offering them the same love, safety, and comfort she gave her own family. Her kindness, generosity, and gentle presence touched many lives. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Val’s Celebration of Life will be held at Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary (Mauka Chapel), Waipio, on Friday, April 3, 2026. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The family kindly requests leis only.
