Velma was my next-door classroom neighbor at Mililani High School. She was kind and welcoming and often brought doughnuts to we teachers who were in “Portable Land”. She had planted a small garden in front of her room and she inspired me to plant gardens in front of several of the portables. I really missed her when she retired and it was never the same after she left.
