Verdene Nalani Allen's Obituary
Verdene Nalani (Crabbe) Allen passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026. She was born on February 20, 1961, in Honolulu.
Verdene was that rare person who brought positivity and joy to every interaction, yes, even during hospital stays! Our world is a little less bright now, but we have many wonderful memories.
Those who spent time with her, no doubt, heard her exclaim, "Lord love a duck," which is considered a polite working-class English way to voice surprise without taking the Lord's name in vain.
She was a proud graduate of Kamehameha Schools and The University of Redlands (where she met her husband, Scot), and was a legendary employee at Redlands Community Hospital, Pepsi-Cola, and HMS Host at the Honolulu International Airport. It is no exaggeration to say that in her professional HR roles, she guided many thousands of folks to a better life.
She was a "lifer" from Kamehameha schools (grades K-12) and a double major in political science and English from the U of R. She was awarded Phi Beta Kappa honors at Redlands.
Fun facts: She was a huge fan of the Great British Baking Show, the BBC's Sherlock, escape rooms, Monarch butterflies, the Big Bear bald eagles, and even the Crows of Portland. What all of these have in common is a diverse set of intelligences and strong family and community bonds.
“Kalei,” as she is known to her friends, is also one of the GOAT supporters of singer David Archuleta. She was part of a team that managed a website and social media for fans.
She is survived by her husband, Scot; sons, Nicholas Allen (and wife Sheri) and Spencer Allen (and partner Adam); Sisters, Brenda Pi'ilani Crabbe-Jones and Kimberly (Crabbe) Winn; Brother, Douglas Crabbe; and Mother, Janet Crabbe.
A celebration of life is set for Monday, July 13, at 5 p.m. at Mililani Memorial Park Mauka Chapel.
