Violet E. Lui Obituary
Violet E. Lui was born to Sanpei and Juka Okaku in Naalehu on August 14, 1923. Violet, 100, passed peacefully at home with family at her side.
Violet was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, David Lui, her sisters Betty Lui and Rosemary Oyama and daughter-in-law Leila Lui (Justin).
Violet is survived by her three sons, Leroy Lui (Danae), Justin Lui and Bernard Lui (Patricia); grandchildren Dustin Lui (Amber) and Leilyn Yamamoto (Ryan); great grandchildren Austin Lui, Danica Lui, Addison Lui, Delilah Lui, Rece Yamamoto and Rhett Yamamoto, sister-in-law Florence Manuel and several nieces and nephews.
Violet had a full and wonderful life. She was a gifted seamstress and gardener who enjoyed growing dendrobium orchids and anthuriums. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother and maintained many family traditions through her cooking at the New Year. She will also be remembered as a terrific baker, especially for her ono pies and Christmas fruit cake. Violet was an avid fan of UH Volleyball and did not miss any opportunity to watch the televised games.
She and her husband traveled extensively in their later years including trips to China, Europe, New Zealand and across the mainland.
Violet enjoyed conversing in Japanese and looked forward to those opportunities with friends and family.
Private services will be held at the Miliani Memorial Park & Mortuary.
