Some of my fondest memories of Uncle Wallace and Aunty Yuki are around the holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Every year, they would alternate hosting one or the other with my parents. If my mom folks did Thanksgiving, then they would do Christmas. And the following year they would switch. As the years went by though, both families decided it was easier to go out to a restaurant for dinner. Then we’d all go back to whomever’s turn it was for dessert and games. Those were such enjoyable times with them! Lots of fun and laughter. After Aunty Yuki passed away in 2020, periodically mom and I would stop by Uncle Wallace’s house, bring bento or food and have lunch together. But as time went by, my dad had passed away and my mom’s dementia got worse. So I started calling Uncle to see how he was doing and I’ll always cherish those conversations we had. Although his health kept declining, his brain remained sharp as a knife. He never repeated himself nor talked nonsense. We would talk about all kinds of things and it would be interesting and amusing. I miss them both and will remember them always with much love and fondness.
