My condolences to the Autele ohana. During my freshman year at McKinley I played for coach Autele. His coaching style is immaculated but the coaches of today w/out all the cursing, yelling or degrading that went along w past coaches. Compassion and confidence was his way. I haven’t seen you in yrs coach ur I will never forget you. You made me a better man. Thank you! Rest in love coach!
Ellen and Family,A life well lived speaks volumes of the friendship Wayne shared with my husband Mike when they coached together for many years. We thank Wayne for the memories knowing he made a difference in the lives of those he befriended. May all the love and appreciation shared bless you at this time. With deepest sympathy and love,Stephanie Marques
I first played PAL Basketball with Coach Autele when I was in the 6th grade. He was always compassionate and positive with the kids he coached. I was always an uncoordinated kid but through his patience and understanding I got better skilled and most importantly had more self- confidence in myself. I remember one day while practicing at the Mckinley HS Outdoor Basketball court, I sneezed and was going to wipe my t-shirt but Coach Autele said to blow and wiped my nose on his Coach’s shirt. When I played Pop Warner for Kapiolani Tigers he treated the whole team to lunch during our break during Summer practice. He was always for us kids. God Bless.
I am sorry to hear of the passing of a mentor, leader to many kids back in the day. Here is my memory of Mr. Autele. I met Mr. Autele in 1967-1968 when he was coaching pop warner football for Kapiolani Tigers. He drove a red mustang and worked as a police officer for HPD. I can remember his red mustang would be packed; packed is an understatement, more like overcrowded with young boys of the football team as he chauffeured all of us to the old Honolulu Stadium to watch the ILH football games - rain or shine. Of course we would always be sitting in the Ewa end zone seats. His mentorship kept many of us off the streets, out of trouble and probably saved many lives. Thank you Mr. Autele you will be greatly missed! Ralph Siu
Dear Ellen and wonderful family of the late Sgt. Autele, your love, commitment, blessings, joy and laughter that you gave to Wayne is second to none. Just as he had done for you, you went above and beyond to give him the best life at Nuuanu Hale! From surprise family visits to meal time together to attending conferences and events, you were always there for him. He lived for you and you lived for him. We miss you and Wayne but are grateful to know and had the opportunity to care for Sgt. Autele. Please take care and God Bless you Ellen and the entire Autele Ohana With heartfelt condolences, Gayle Lau Nuuanu Hale
