Wilfredo Gutierrez Esguerra's Obituary
Wilfredo Gutierrez Esguerra was born on October 12th 1943 in Camiling, Tarlac, Philippines, to
parents, Clemente Esguerra Sr. and Lerida Gutierrez. He grew up as the fourth out of seven
siblings and would later begin his career at Pantranco Transportation company as a bus driver in
1968 before starting his own bus business with his siblings in 1972.
In 1982, Fred immigrated to O’ahu, Hawai’i, in search of a better life and opportunities for
himself and his wife Teotima, and their daughter Imelda. He began working as a mechanic at
Love’s Bakery in 1990 before going back home to the Philippines in 1993 to finally bring his
family to The U.S.
After retiring from Love’s Bakery in 2006, Fred dedicated his time to caring for his
granddaughter Kaitlyn, handling school drop-offs and pickups, and their weekly McDonald’s
outings. In 2010, he welcomed his grandson Tristan and continued his role as a committed and
loving grandpa. He took great pride in his grandchildren and remained a steady, neutering
presence in their daily lives.
In his free time, Fred loved gardening with his wife and he also enjoyed traveling back home to
the Philippines and Florida to spend time with his beloved family. He had a special talent for
cooking comforting Filipino dishes and a green thumb which would bless his family with an
abundance of fruits, vegetables, and beautiful plants and flowers.
Fred was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in early spring 2025 and put up an incredibly
fierce fight with the support of family. On January 30th 2026, he peacefully entered eternal rest,
surrounded by love and the presence of those who meant most to him.
Fred was preceded in death by his mother, Lerida; his father, Celemente Sr.; his sister,
Freddiesvinda; his brothers, Rudy, Eduardo, Condrado, Hermogenes, and Clemente Jr.; his
stepson, Jonel; and his nephew, Mark. He is survived by his sister, Nilda; his wife, Teotima; his
daughter, Imelda; his stepdaughters, Gloria and Miriam; his stepsons, Andres and Ernesto; and
his evergrowing number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wilfredo will be greatly missed by his family and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing
him. His memory and sacrifices will live on forever in our hearts.
A funeral visitation and mass will be held on March 18th, 2026 at St. Joseph Church Waipahu
from 8:15 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., followed by burial at Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary in
section C1
