DONALD ARTHUR 'BUD' BROWN, 91
Beloved husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, Donald Arthur “Bud” Brown, age 91, passed away peacefully August 24, 2018 at his home in Kapolei, Oahu, from complications of leukemia. Donald was born to Warren D. Brown and Ruth Elma Titus in Van Nuys, CA, November 25, 1926.
As a young man, Donald served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and Korean War, and was honorably discharged. During his service overseas, he met and married Kaoru Iwahashi, who was the love of his life for more than 65 years.
Following discharge, Donald worked for a time for the U.S. Postal Service, attending school at night, and eventually moved on to various engineering positions at defense contractors Rocketdyne and Litton Data Systems. Donald retired from full-time employment in 1992, but continued to work part-time in a technical capacity at Honolulu airport for a number of years.
Throughout his life, Donald’s love of the sea was evident. While living on Okinawa, he became a certified PADI SCUBA instructor, and several of his diving buddies remained close friends after moving to Hawaii in 1978. In addition to diving, Donald enjoyed the bounty of Hawaii’s open ocean, and spent many happy days deep sea fishing on his boat with friends and family. In his later years, Donald enjoyed the occasional visit to Las Vegas with Kaoru, tending to “honey-do’s” around the house and visiting with his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his wife, Kaoru; sons Warren J. (Nancy) and James L. (Sachiko); grandchildren Christine Koo, Alison Tan and Michele Smith; great-grandchildren Ashley Koo, Caitlin Koo, Camille Koo, Raiden Tan, Kenji Tan and Makoto Tan.
