Edward "Eddie" Abbot's Obituary
Edward “Eddie” Abbot lived a life full of adventure, hard work, family, and friendship — and he was never without a good story to tell. He passed away July 21, 2025 at 82, with loved ones at his side.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Katherine Rose “Nana Kay-Kay” Abbot and Edward William “Sarge” Abbot, Eddie grew up with his sisters, Valerie and Barbara, in Medford, Boston, and Cambridge before the family moved to Rockport. They shared a good childhood, spending time exploring, taking weekend trips, and enjoying life by the water. Eddie graduated from Gloucester High School, where his love for the ocean and sailing grew.
After high school, Ed joined the U.S. Navy, which launched a lifelong career in electronics and satellite communications — and eventually, a distinguished career as an aerospace engineer. His work took him around the world: Cape Kennedy, the Bahamas, Ascension Island, and Seychelles Islands with RCA International Service Company’s Missile Test Project, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Barking Sands earth station on Kaua‘i; GE Americom on Oahu; and finally SES Americom, where he retired as Hawaiian Region Technical Operations Manager.
Ed’s first marriage welcomed daughters Jyl and Juli. While working in Seychelles, he met Marie-Therese, his wife of over 30 years, and together they had daughters Brigitte and Cynthia. The family later moved to Kaua‘i to welcome another daughter, Rose-Marie, before settling on O‘ahu. Later in life, Ed married Kimmy, and together they moved to Florida, where they spent 10 beautiful years traveling the world, taking road trips, tending to the home they took great pride in, enjoying good food, dancing, and welcoming her sons, Adam and Andrew, into his extended family.
Ed enjoyed many hobbies over his life and pursued them with passion. He operated ham radios, played guitar, cared for his koi fish, became a master SCUBA PADI instructor, captured moments with underwater photography, ran marathons, sailed, and enjoyed shooting at the range.
He rode Harley-Davidson motorcycles and one of his biggest accomplishments was riding cross-country from California to Massachusetts, and back to California. He also had a fondness for beer — happiest with a cold one in hand and living by his motto: “Beer is good.”
He kept lifelong friends from every chapter of his life, making the effort to call, visit, and stay connected. In every neighborhood, he became the “unofficial mayor,” ready to lend a hand, share a laugh, or offer a great story.
Ed is survived by his wife, Kimmy; daughters Jyl and Juli; daughters Brigitte, Cynthia, and Rose-Marie; four granddaughters; two grandsons; sisters Valerie Mine (Jack) and Barbara Miller (Paul); and countless friends around the world.
He leaves behind a life well-lived, a circle of friendships that spans the globe, and the reminder to live with curiosity, travel far, laugh often — and never turn down a cold beer.
