Gary Sumio Yoshimoto's Obituary
Gary Sumio Yoshimoto, 72, of Ewa Beach, Hawai‘i, passed away on November 2, 2025.
Born in Hilo, Hawaii on June 7th. Gary lived a life marked by dedication, compassion, and quiet strength. He built a remarkable dual career—first as a Ramp Agent with United Airlines, and later as an Oncology Registered Nurse and Case Manager at The Queen’s Medical Center. Whether ensuring safe travels or caring for patients during their most vulnerable moments, Gary gave his heart entirely to the people he served.
Gary was a man of many passions. A proud marathon participant, he embraced every challenge with determination and grace. He loved collecting art and unique showpieces, surrounding himself with beauty and stories from near and far. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, whether it was out for lunch, traveling together, on a phone call, or sending a quick text message. Above all, he cherished his beloved dogs, Mozart and Miki, who brought him endless joy and companionship.
Those who knew Gary will remember him as smart, funny, generous, and intensely loyal, the kind of brother, uncle, and friend who showed up without hesitation. His presence brought comfort, his humor brought light, and his kindness left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Gary is survived by his brother, Denis Yoshimoto of Honolulu; his sister, Royene Kahoopii of Las Vegas; his nephews, Kyle Kahoopii of Kamuela and Chad Kahoopii of Wailuku; his nieces, Danielle Corral of San Antonio and Angela Yoshimoto of Honolulu; three grandnephews, three grandnieces, and numerous aunties, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at Mililani Memorial Park, Makai Chapel on Thursday, January 8th, at 9:00 AM, with a private burial to follow. The family kindly asks for no flowers and no kōden.
Gary’s spirit, generosity, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
May he rest in peace and eternal aloha
