Gladys Calotis Behic's Obituary
Gladys Behic Obituary
It is with a heart full of cherished memories and profound love that we announce the peaceful passing of Gladys Calotis Behic, affectionately known as “Grandma Gladys”, on May 10, 2024, in her beloved hometown of Ewa, Hawaii. Born on June 27, 1932, Gladys's life was a testament to the enduring strength of love and family.
Gladys's journey began in Ewa, where the warm plantation sun and the gentle breezes cradled her youth. Gladys's role as a wife for 67 years to her late husband, Theogenes M. Behic Sr., who preceded her in death in 2016, was one of unwavering partnership and shared dreams. Together, they raised a family that became the cornerstone of her existence.
A full-time mother and caretaker, Gladys's love and guidance shaped the lives of her seven children, who, in turn, blessed her with a legacy of fifty-one grand, great, and great-great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a family that spans generations, including her lone living sibling Geraldine Hoshino, her children Debbie (Dan) Hart, Lowena (Robert) Nagamine, Christine (Michael) Hermosura, Vannesa Ann (Jody) Wright, Theogenes M. Jr. (Diana) Behic, Venus Abihai, Keoke (Laura) Behic, and Bernadine Hart along with their loving families. Each child, grandchild, great-grandchild and great great-grandchild carried a piece of Gladys's heart and wisdom, and her influence will live on through each of them.
Gladys's life was a reflection of her dedication to nurturing and supporting her family. Her grand-children, Donny (Amber) Hart, Corey (Kris) Hart, Jon (Antonette) Nagamine, Kevin (Jennifer) Nagamine, Daven (Annie) Hermosura, Garrett (Kamanu) Hermosura, Chasitie (Ola) Hermosura, Joseph (Kelia) Wright, Jeannette Wright, Clifton (Vi) Behic, Aaron (Cheryl) Behic, Amanda Behic, Marcianna Behic, Krysia Abihai, Kanoa Abihai (Kolea), Jade Behic, Puanani Lee, Kaulana Lee Jr, and Nahakulei Lee will forever remember her as the matriarch who instilled in them values of love, respect, and the importance of ohana.
Her great-grandchildren and great-great grandchild, Gabriel (Amber) Hart, Kainoa Hart, Josiah Hart, Evelyn Hart, Christian Hart, Kassidy Hart, Evan Nagamine, Jake Nagamine, Liana Nagamine, Isaiah Nagamine, Mason Nagamine, Hayden Nagamine, Kaliko Hermosura, Kahanula'e Hermosura, Tehani Hermosura, Zairah Hermosura, Karis Hermosura, Cheyzah Hermosura, Dorrien Hermosura (Kanoe), Skyler Wright, Ku'ulei (Samuel) Johansson, Eliana Johansson, Tori Wright, Severino Behic, Abbigail Behic, Kaiya Behic, Kalea Behic, Noa Behic, Anela Abihai, Kekoa Garcia, Kanani Garcia and Kealapono Lee will carry forward her teachings and the many joyful moments they shared.
As we bid farewell to Grandma Gladys, we celebrate a life that was rich in experiences and abundant in love. She has left us with a legacy that is as beautiful as Ewa Village that she called home. Her memory will be a guiding star for her family, reminding them of the power of love and the importance of family. We also celebrate the reunion with her beloved spouse, siblings, parents and the rest of her loved ones who preceded her in heaven.
Gladys's presence will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to embrace us just as the warm Hawaiian sun envelops the sugar plantation of Ewa. Her life was a journey of love, and though she has set sail on her final voyage, the ripples of her influence will touch us all forever. A hui hou, manamilit nako, Grandma Gladys, farewell and until we meet again.
