The memory of Jacob “Jake†Hueu, my brother in law, will live forever in our hearts and prayers. He was a humble man and a man of great character and integrity. Jake had a tremendous foundation upon which he accomplished his dreams and aspirations. A man of few words, he achieved many successes through his determination and commitment. Jake was always there to provide encouragement and a helping hand to his family, friends, and contemporaries. Jake excelled in athletics, as a player and as a coach, and served in the United States Marine Corps. Jake spent his youth growing up on Lana’i and developed a profound respect for the people of Lana’i. Rest in peace, Jake. Aloha and God Bless.
The first time I met Jake was at his wedding reception when he married my 2nd grade teacher Rosita Hueu right after school ended in June, 1960. I got to know him being his newspaper delivery boy and student at Lana'i High School. Throughout the years, he has been an advocate for Lana'i High students and athletes and organized the annual Lana'i Invitational Golf Tournament. Jake will always be remembered as a kind hearted person who always cared for all who knew him. He will surely be missed. Condolences to Rosita, Darren, Roberta and family.

I’ll never forget Mr. Hueu’s generous spirit and kindness he showed to everyone he met no matter how well he knew them or not. I am friends with his granddaughter Ani and he would always make sure we got some goodies when he sent her a care package in college. When we came to visit he opened his home to us and always made sure we had plenty to eat and were enjoying the island. It was such a treat to get to hear some of his stories.
