Mapuana Gusman Obituary
Mapuana “Mana” Asing Gusman passed away on the 1st of June in Honolulu and entered the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Born in 1931 on the island of Kauai, Mapuana was a strong and motivated woman. Persevering through a challenging upbringing and overcoming hardships through the early years of her life, she lived her dream of becoming a wife at the age of 23 upon marrying Bernard Juan Gusman Sr. on August 28, 1954. This began a marriage journey which endured a further 32 years and saw Mapuana embracing her second dream of becoming a beloved mother of four children. She thrived as a stay-at-home mom and ensured her family was always cared for and loved even in the lean seasons by demonstrating each of her sons and daughters had an Easter basket every year and Christmas gift under the tree.
A caring and compassionate woman who loved the Lord, these beautiful and powerful demonstrations of Mapuana’s love extended far beyond her children as she devoted herself in her later years to spreading the name of Jesus and the goodness of God to everyone who was fortunate to be in her midst. With a heart of aloha and passion for prayer, she would often recognize the beauty in others and convey her heartfelt sentiments to those around her by saying “I’ll put you on my prayer list” leaving them feeling blessed and encouraged beyond words. Her spirit of compassion and heart of generosity would often lead her to bless others financially even if it meant giving all she had left because of her unwavering faith that God would provide.
Her life became even more fruitful in the last 6 years as her faithful and loving Lord restored and reconciled family relationships once thought were lost outweighing the previous 30 years that were missed. Another beautiful testimony of God’s faithfulness and everlasting love that continues to be shared with those He loves. We bid “A hui Hou” Mapuana and bless you into your eternal home in the Kingdom of Heaven where you belong.
Mapuana is survived by her sons, Bernard Gusman Jr and Les Gusman (Stephanie), and daughters, Bernadette Gusman Kamana’o (Daniel) and Avalon Gusman; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and brother, John M. Asing (Kanani).
Private inurnment will be held 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Mililani Memorial Park.
