Rebecca (Becky) Galicia Hambaro of Honolulu passed away at Kaiser Hospital at age 92 on September 29, 2019. She was born November 20, 1926 in Manila, Republic of The Philippines and was one of nine children. Her father was Quirino Galicia and mother Paulina Menson. Rebecca’s siblings were brothers Enrique, Quirino Jr., Manuel, Arsenio and sisters Evelyn, Fay, Lillian and Annette Ikehara.
Becky came to Hawaii in 1946 having married Frank E. Hambaro, a Decorated U.S. Army Combat Veteran of WWII and the Korean War. They were married for over 62 years until his passing in 2007.
Becky is survived by her four adult offspring:
Julie Morgan (Daniel) of Spokane, WA.,
Frank Hambaro Jr. (Toni) of Mountain View, HI,
Cynthia Soon (Richard Jr.) of Honolulu, HI
William G. Hambaro of Makaha, HI.
and her sister Annette Galicia Ikehara (James) of Hilo, HI.
Rebecca Hambaro has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As a young girl, Rebecca endured the hardships of the Depression era, wartime occupation of the Philippines and still had hope for the future. In 1950 Rebecca and her husband was one of the first fee simple owner/builders of a farm and houses in Waianae, Oahu. She eventually owned and managed properties in Makaha, Waianae, Waipahu, Aliamanu and Salt Lake. She believed in faith in God, country, honor, education, family, and the value of hard work.
An accomplished homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother Rebecca was also a devout Christian. Mom loved to sing, dance, and read her Bible daily. She was known for having the kindest and happiest heart. She was surrounded by her family in her passing.
All are welcomed to attend a service for Rebecca Hambaro at Mililani Memorial Park and Mortuary, Makai Chapel on Friday,November 1 at 6:15 p.m.
Private viewing for immediate family from 4:30-5:15, Viewing for family and friends continue from 5:15-6:15.
Private graveside service for the family will occur on the following day at Mililani Memorial, 10:00 a.m.
