I was brand new to the navy when I met Alvarez. He was the first friend I made on island, as we were checking in together back in 2016. He was very welcoming and friendly. As we toured the island he was telling me all about his adventures he had here. As we got to the Dole plantation he inspired me to buy my first ukulele. As we came back on the bus, he played the ukulele and sang a song. He was truly talented!
As I was going through difficult times with my family, he opened his home and family to me where I felt very welcomed. He truly helped me during my dark times, and was light in my life.
Rest in peace, brother, you are truly missed.
