John Vogt
Bob was the best CO I ever worked for in my 22 year Navy career. We spent many hours singing oldies during happy hour at the club. He valued and respected his Chief Petty Officers and held them in the highest regard. We played golf together nearly every Monday being across the international date line, our staff command in Hawaii was enjoying their typical Sunday day off. I recall many happy Sunday brunches at his home with Ellen keeping the bloody marys flowing. Occasionally he would join us for a poker game and my wife would keep his martini glass full. Upon his transfer I made a farewell plaque from a piece of iron wood with a poem inscribed using the letters in NAVFAC GUAM for each line. I had a tough time reading it through teary eyes. My sincere thoughts to Ellen and the family. RIP skipper you will always be in my thoughts.
