Robert Burton Miller, II's Obituary
Retired U.S. Navy Commander Robert Burton Miller II died at the age of 81 on September 5th, 2025 at his home in Mililani, HI. He was born on March 7th, 1944 to Robert Burton and Ardith Ellen Miller. Like his father, Bob enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Plattsburgh AFB in New York. There, he met his future wife, Ellen Yamanouchi. They married in 1968 and had a daughter Erin and in 1972 they had a son, Robert Burton Miller III.
In 1973, Bob was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy after attending Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL. In November of the same year, he became a Naval Flight Officer. He was assigned to VP-1 at NAS Barbers Point from 1974-1977 and was later assigned to the Defense Intelligence School in Washington D.C. Bob graduated in 1978 and completed his tour at the Naval Intelligence Command in 1980. From 1980-1983 he was with the Navy Personnel Command, Sea Duty Component in D.C. He served as the Commanding Officer, U.S. Naval Facility Guam from 1983-1985 and returned to Hawaii to serve with VP-6 until 1987.
Bob and Ellen relocated to Garden Grove, California where he retired in 1994. They spent the next 18 years there before returning back to Hawaii to be closer to family.
He is survived by wife Ellen, brother Thomas G. Miller (Prajit), sister Kevin P. Miller, brother Kelly C. Miller and sister Tamara K. (Miller) Browning. He also leaves behind his two children Erin (Michael) Ramos and Robert III (Norika) along with 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a few lifelong friends.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, November 14th ,2025 at Mililani Mortuary Makai Chapel. Visitation begins at 10:00 am and service will be at 11:00 am. Burial to follow at 1:30 pm at Mililani Memorial Park Cemetary.
